Friends & Family Support Group for Kendall County Special Olympic "Comets" was
formed to assist in providing a fun-filled and successful program for our athletes. Monitored through an internal Exec Board
and sub-committees, the group provides volunteers and assistance at practices, games and events and assists in the coordination
and implementation of fundraisers.
Kendall County Comets, a local team
and chapter of Illinois Special Olympics is in Area 2 of Special Olympics, Illinois and has been serving athletes with
special needs since 1970. We maintain our program through Kendall County
Special Education Cooperative. Currently we have approximately 55 registered
athletes who live through out Kendall County ranging in age from 8-55 years of age.
As our number has continued to grow, so have we. Our program
endeavors to offer not only sporting activities, but also multiple social events and fun and supportive opportunities for
athletes and their families. We have a caring support network of parents, coaches and volunteers that work tirelessly
to ensure that Kendall County Comets is the BEST special olympics club possible.
During the Fall and Winter of 2009 our families and athletes voted
on what we, as a group, would be known as. In the Spring of 2009, the Kendall County Special Olympic Comets were
announced as our own special team name. Watch out for the Comets---we're Shooting for the Stars and Shining Bright!
