VOLUNTEER FAQS

What do volunteers do?

KCSO Team utilizes its volunteers in a variety of ways, all based upon the time and commitment the volunteer has available.  Some of the volunteer positions that we offer are:

  • Serving on sub-committees
    • There are several committees that aid in the smooth operation of the Kendall County Comets. These are made up primarily of volunteers. The time commitment of these committees vary from meeting once a month to meeting three and four times a month.  Additionally, most of the primary committees include sub-committees that have specific responsibilities, but on a smaller scale of required commitment.  Some of the committees to choose from include:
      • Uniform Committee
      • Fundraising Committee
      • Communications Committee
      • Event Planning Committee
  • Assisting at Team sponsored events
    • We plan several non-athletic events for its athletes that are run by volunteers. These events include our Fall Registration, Halloween Bash, Holiday Party, Family Fun Fest and the End of Year Banquet.
  •  Serving as a volunteer coach
    • Our Team utilizes volunteer coaches who assist at practices and competitive events.

Is there a minimum age you have to be to volunteer?

We have volunteers as young as 10 years old all the way through grandparent age.  If a person would like to volunteer, we always find a way to have them incorporated; To be a volunteer coach, you do have to be a minimum of 16 yrs old.  Our jr. volunteer coaches may start when they are 11 yrs old and are paired with an experienced coach.  There are state guidelines for all volunteer coaches.  For more information and specifics, please contact us directly.

What is the required time commitment? I want to help but don't have much free time to offer.

That's okay! Many of our volunteers are only able to assist with specific events, or portions of events, where others are able to commit the time necessary to volunteering to a committee or sub-committee. Many of our events our structured into 3 or 4 hour slots on a particular day. You don't have to have an enormous amount of free time to volunteer!

Is there a form or background check that volunteers have to go through?

Yes.  The state requires a background check on all new volunteers.  Additionally, you do have a form that you must submit to the Director of Kendall County Comets.  Both of these are available for download utilizing Adobe on this page and in the Forms page from our main menu.
