On April 27, 2008, Cory Szot, one of our athletes and a dear friend to many of us passed away in his sleep, losing his battle with muscular dystrophy.

Cory was 15 years old and finishing up his freshman year at Oswego East High School.  Fun loving, with a heightened sense of humor and a personality that excuded friendship, Cory was cared for and loved by all who knew him.

This very special page has been created in loving memory of Cory: his life, his accomplishments and the positive legacy that he has left for all of us.

Cory will be missed, yet ever remembered with laughter, fondness, love and joy.

He Was

He was the big brother to Nicole, Natalie and Joshua,

He was a beloved son to Tim and Diane

He was the loved grandson of Robert and Charolette Denzel

He was a 15 year old freshman at Oswego East High School

He was an avid sports fan

with a love for the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks

He was an Indy Race Car fan

awed at being able to meet his favorite driver, Tony Kanaan

He was a young man with muscular dystrophy

who was determined to live his life...

despite his disease

He was an athlete in Kendall County Special Olympics,

preparing for his first wheelchair slalom race

He was caring

He was loving

He was funny with a spectacular sense of humor

He was responsible for coining the term “baseball drop”

as a titled event for Spring games

He was, beyond all, a young man who was loved, a son who was cherished, a brother who was protective and a friend who was honorable

Cory has gone on to a more peaceful place…but to those of us left behind,

the important thing is, is that

HE WAS
